CURRICULUM

Our curriculum is built around six distinct lesson elements, each with its own colour-coded theme. This helps students clearly recognise each stage of the lesson and follow the structure with ease.
 

The first part of each session focuses on structured learning:

The second part becomes more interactive:

MEMORY BOOST

This section helps students quickly review what they’ve learned in the previous lesson. Using short recaps and light, engaging questions, they refresh key ideas in just a few minutes. This strengthens memory, builds confidence, and prepares them to move forward with a clear mind.

 

Through quick-fire quizzes, visual cues, and playful challenges, students reconnect with important concepts without feeling overwhelmed. It is a simple but powerful way to lock in learning and make sure nothing important gets left behind.

CORE KNOWLEDGE

In this section, students are guided through the core building blocks of chess, from the layout of the board to the unique movements and powers of each piece. They’ll explore essential ideas such as space, time, coordination, and piece value, gaining an understanding of what makes a position strong or weak.

 

Step by step, learners will begin to think like chess players, not just reacting to threats, but making plans, spotting patterns, and creating opportunities. By mastering these basics, they build a solid, lasting foundation for confident, creative, and strategic play, both in and beyond the game.

CHECKMATE WITHIN

Chess is more than just a game. This section explores the life lessons that chess reveals, such as fairness, courage, resilience, and self-control. Each lesson is built around a central theme, thoughtfully woven into the logic of the game.​ Not every battle is fought on the board; some unfold beyond it, and the most meaningful ones often happen within oneself. 

​

We aim to teach and encourage young minds to think both philosophically and scientifically. We seek to equip them with wisdom, with inspiration, and with the strength of character to act well. This way, they can take the right steps as they shape their own paths and grow into the kind of people who do good for others, even if no one notices and even if they may never see the outcome.

 

These are the reasons this section is called Checkmate Within, inspired by the words of Zeno of Citium:

“Man conquers the world by conquering himself”

Desperado: A move in chess when a piece is doomed to be lost, but before it’s captured, it makes one last move to gain value, maybe capturing something or creating a threat. It turns a loss into a small win.

HISTORY OF CHESS

Behind every move lies a story. These are stories that have travelled across centuries, continents and cultures. In this section, students will explore the fascinating journey of chess. They will learn how it began in ancient India, evolved in Persia and spread to medieval Europe, becoming the global mind sport we know today.

 

They will discover legendary players such as Ruy López, Bobby Fischer, and Judit Polgár, who changed the game and inspired generations. They will explore famous games such as “The Opera Game,” “The Gold Coin Game,” and “The Evergreen Game,” which continue to amaze the world.

 

They’ll uncover fun and surprising facts that make the story of chess even more thrilling and unforgettable. Why did pawns once represent farmers? How did the queen become the most powerful piece? And how did a fake chess-playing machine fool the world?

 

This section is not only about the past. It helps students see the story they are now part of. Let’s step back in time and play forward.

​In this section, students work through focused and creative exercises to understand key chess ideas more deeply.

​

They solve puzzles like Blunder Detective, Minefield, and Checkmate in x moves, which help them improve their careful planning, logical thinking, and accuracy. Activities like Coordinate hunt encourage spatial awareness and concentration. We also have activities such as Mindboard to support visual memory, along with word searches, Score the board, Journey of pieces, pairs, Chess coding and question banks to reinforce what they’ve learned in different ways.

These exercises offer variety and structure, giving students different ways to practise and build confidence while keeping learning enjoyable and purposeful.

In this section, students put their learning into action through real gameplay. Along the way, they sharpen their focus, make quick decisions, and practise good sportsmanship.

 

To keep things playful and fresh, we also include creative minigames and variations. These quick challenges help students explore key ideas from new angles.
